Quick & Meaningful New Year's Goal Setting

What goals are you wanting to set for the new year? Before you choose the first goal that pops in your mind, check out our quick activity to help you get to the heart of your 2020 resolutions.

New Year’s Mind Map

Grab a pen, a blank piece of paper and let’s get started.

Mind maps help you lay out what you’re thinking in an organized manner. The reason we love mind maps for your New Year’s goals is they will show you where your goals are overlapping. Also, sometimes the act of writing something down makes us realize we really do (or really don’t) care about that goal.

Step #1 Write New Year’s 2020 at the center.

Step #2 Write the general areas you feel inspired to give energy towards this year.

Step #3 Get specific. Write what you’d like to give energy towards in that given area. For example, if for #2 you put “faith” here you could put things such as “read my Bible”, “volunteer”, “find a mentor”, “find a church”, “read new books”, etc.

Step #4 Get tangible. Next, write the ways you could make your specific goals happen. If you’re wanting to volunteer, write down the organization’s name and when you’re going to reach out to them. If you’re wanting to find a mentor, write down “contact church”.

Step #5 Look at all your goals, see if there’s any overlap or areas in specific you feel really excited about. Choose 2-3 of these goals to focus on for the year. You can re-write the overlapping goals in the extra space on the page. If you’d like, keep the mind map so you can reference it later on in the year (or snap a picture of it).

Step #6 Put it into action. Give yourself action steps to start these goals off strong.

Happy goal setting! We hope whatever goals you set, that you’re able to grow in your faith and understanding of God’s love for you this year.
