God's Generative Love & The Major Gifts

God’s love moves in, around, and through people at Heartland, generating much life for all to relish. In the fall of 2017, Heartland launched a major gifts campaign to support God's generative love in action. This plan includes the renewal of Heartland’s spaces and launching a new young adult ministry, the Gap Year Program.

The Major Gifts Campaign & 2020

Heartland Presbyterian Center's vision is to be the camp and conference center of choice in the Heartland, an oasis for growth and renewal of body, heart, mind, and spirit for all people as God's children. In faithfulness and dedication to this vision, Heartland paused the major gifts campaign. Pausing the campaign gave Heartland the energy to focus on the health of the ministry.

Major Gifts Campaign Progress in the Storm

Amidst the challenges Heartland met during this pandemic, progress sometimes felt non-existent. Yet, Heartland made a lot of headway, especially in regards to the major gifts campaign. Their facility committee and maintenance team completed several structural improvements and renovation projects. These projects were made possible due to the donors of the major gifts campaign before the start of the pandemic. Heartland is overjoyed to welcome God's children's home in 2021 with these improvements.

Completed MGC Projects:

  • Renovating parts of the Nunemaker and Cray Lodges: Wanescoating, paint, carpet,

  • Installing new hardwood kitchen flooring in the House of Faith Lodge

  • Building two new wilderness cabins at the Windy Hill Campsite

  • Purchasing six new equipment trailers for Traveling Day Camp

  • Purchasing two giant inflatable waterslides for Traveling Day Camp

  • Purchasing a horse trailer for Traveling Day Camp

  • Remodeling the lobby and bathrooms of the Nunemaker Conference Center

  • Replacing the decaying culvert under our main road preventing it from caving in

  • Installing vinyl siding on the Nunemaker Conference Center and Cray Lodge

  • Completing much-needed upgrades to the wastewater management system

  • Completing HC/AC overhauls to the House of Faith and the offices

  • Installing a sidewalk extension to Genesis Hall, supporting greater accessibility for guests

  • Installing a brick patio to the Nunemaker Conference Center

  • Beginning construction work on a new spiritual retreat cabin called The Hermitage

  • Making safety improvements to the east entrance: widening the road, new gates, and new signage

  • Demolition of the gatehouse near the east entrance

  • Purchasing new mattresses for Cray Lodge

  • Purchasing a skyjacks scissor lift for a safer work environment

These improvements will help make decades-old buildings and spaces feel fresh and hospitable for years to come.

The future of the major gifts campaign

As we look towards the future, this campaign continues to rejuvenate and excite Heartland.

The vision of the future bring an eagerness towards the following efforts:

  • Repurpose the Old Pool House into Meeting Center for Pete's Cabins

  • Build Changing Rooms and Meeting Deck at the Aquatic Center

  • Some additional aesthetic & safety improvements to the Main Entrance

  • Gap Year Program

  • The completion of the Spiritual Retreat Hermitage

Heartland can't wait to see how God uses these campaign pieces and how they serve the community.

Heartland will restart the Major Gift Campaign effort later this year. Please join Heartland in praying over the continuation of this major gifts campaign and fulfillment of God’s love in their space.
